ABILENE, TX — Ballinger’s Treyven Lopez took third place in the 132-pound class Friday at the Division IV state powerlifting meet at the Taylor County Expo Center in Abilene.
The sophomore lifted 435 pounds in the squat, 280 in the bench press and 420 in the deadlift for a total of 1,135 pounds.
Lopez was only 40 pounds behind state champion Alberto Olivas of Amarillo Highland Park.
Lopez had the best finish of a Concho Valley lifter at the meet.
Three other area lifters finished in fourth place — Ozona’s Darrius Galindo in the super heavyweight class (700-425-500 — 1,625), Sonora’s Axel Botello in the 220-pound class (630-440-480 — 1,550) and San Saba’s Neri Gonzales in the 123-pound class (405-255-430 — 1,090).
Concho Valley lifters who had top 10 showings included Sonora’s Acea Gomez, who was sixth in the 165 class; Bangs’ Roy Duron, who was sixth in the 220 class; San Saba’s Christopher Vega, who was seventh in the 114 class; Reagan County’s Rodrigo Bernal, who was seventh in the 242 class; Ballinger’s Josh Martinez, who was eighth in the 242 class; and Ozona’s Matt Ybarra, who was ninth in the 242 class.
Other area athletes at the meet included San Saba’s Anthony Garcia, who was 11th in the 148 class; Colorado City’s Aiden Woodall, who was 12th in the 275 class; and Coleman’s Gio Villanueva, who was 14th in the 181 class.
At the Division III state meet, Grape Creek’s Lorenzo Longoria was 11th in the super heavyweight class.
