SAN ANGELO, TX — Two big innings from Midland Legacy proved to be too much for the Central Lady Cats in their district home opener on Tuesday night. The Lady Rebels took advantage of several big hits in those innings to build an insurmountable lead and claim victory over Central, 11-3.
Legacy jumped on the board first in the top of the 2nd thanks to two triples in the inning. The Lady Rebels scored four to take a 4-0 lead. Central responded well, answering with two runs of their own in the bottom of the 2nd and 3rd innings to cut the deficit in half headed to the 4th inning. In the 4th, Midland Legacy would add to their lead again, scoring one in the 4th and one in the 5th before exploding at the top of the 7th with five more runs.
The Lady Cats had several opportunities to answer. Central would hit early in the inning, but left several runners on base on multiple occasions. However, it was not until the top of the 7th inning that the game truly felt out of reach.
Central would add one more run in the bottom of the 7th inning, but could not muster the offense to mount a comeback. The Lady Cats fell 11-3.
The Lady Cats compiled 12 hits in the contest against Midland Legacy. Ella Dupre led the way for Central with two RBIs and finished 1-2 on the day. Tiny Ramirez finished the evening 3-3 at the plate, with KK Saldivar and Maddie Welsh finishing .500 for the day.
On defense, the Lady Cats committed two errors, both contributing to Midland Legacy's big seventh inning.
Next up, Central hits the road to play Midland High on Friday, March 20. First pitch in that matchup is scheduled for 6:30 p.m.
