No. 8 Angelo State Travels to Oklahoma This Weekend

 

SAN ANGELO, TX — Angelo State’s softball team heads to Oklahoma this weekend for Lone Star Conference matchups against Cameron and No. 12 Oklahoma Christian.

The Rambelles will open the trip with a doubleheader against Cameron at 4 p.m. Friday in Lawton, Oklahoma. Angelo State will conclude the weekend on Sunday with a noon game against Oklahoma Christian in Oklahoma City.

Angelo State went 3-1 last weekend, sweeping two-time national champion UT Tyler before splitting a doubleheader with Texas Woman’s.

The Rambelles also reached a program milestone earlier this season, recording the program’s 1,000th all-time win with an 18-0 victory over Midwestern State on Feb. 20. Angelo State, which began competition in 2002, joined St. Edward’s and St. Mary’s as the only Lone Star Conference programs with more than 1,000 wins.

Scouting Report: Cameron

Cameron enters the weekend with a 10-13 overall record and a 4-10 mark in Lone Star Conference play. The Aggies are 4-2 at home this season.

Cameron is hitting .303 as a team and averaging 6.3 runs per game. Haley Gardella leads the offense with a .453 batting average, along with 11 home runs and 37 RBIs.

The Aggies’ pitching staff has posted a 5.60 ERA with 112 strikeouts in 153⅔ innings. Madison Fulfer leads the staff with a 5.30 ERA, while Chloe Hill has limited opponents to a .298 batting average.

Angelo State leads the all-time series 40-19 but is 10-13 in games played in Lawton. The Rambelles have lost their last six games at McMahon Field dating back to 2020. Last season, Angelo State swept Cameron in San Angelo, winning 8-0 and 5-3.

Scouting Report: Oklahoma Christian

No. 12 Oklahoma Christian enters the weekend with a 20-4 overall record and a 12-2 conference mark. The Eagles are 9-1 at home, with their only loss coming in a 2-1 game against Oklahoma Baptist.

Oklahoma Christian is batting .354 as a team with seven hitters batting above .300. Kadence Brewster leads the offense with a .442 average and a team-high 22 RBIs. Brewster and Kallie Rupp share the team lead with three home runs.

The Eagles’ pitching staff carries a 2.94 ERA while holding opponents to a .247 batting average. Jill Dickson, the Lone Star Conference preseason pitcher of the year, is 10-2 with a 1.87 ERA and 76 strikeouts in 63⅔ innings. Ella Resendiz is 6-0 with a 2.79 ERA and 62 strikeouts in 57⅔ innings.

Angelo State trails the all-time series 9-8 and is 2-5 in games played in Oklahoma City. The Rambelles swept last season’s doubleheader against Oklahoma Christian in San Angelo, winning 4-0 and 3-2.
