Wall QB York Named Offensive Player of Year on TSWA All-State Team

SAN ANGELO, TX — Wall senior quarterback Landon York was named the Offensive Player of the Year on the Texas Sports Writers Association Class 3A All-State Football Team.

York led the Hawks to a 16-0 record and their first state title in program history while passing for 4,019 yards and 49 touchdowns with seven interceptions. He completed 65.4% of his passes.

York had plenty of company on the all-state team as offensive lineman Baine Jenschke, wide receiver Reid Robertson, defensive lineman Dylan Sellers, linebacker Jacob Braden and punter Levi York all earned first-team honors.

Jenschke graded out at 96% and didn’t allow a sack all season to anchor the Hawks’ offensive line. Robertson was York’s go-to receiver with 70 catches for 1,428 yards and 22 TDs.

Sellers led the Hawks’ defensive line with 133 tackles, 22 tackles for loss, eight sacks and 39 QB hurries. Braden led the area with 170 tackles, along with 18 tackles for loss, 15 QB hurries, four sacks and an interception.

King averaged 42.5 yards per punt and had seven of them downed inside the 20-yard line. He also set a state-final record with a 67-yarder.

Kicker Tyler Klinesmith was named to the second team. He connected on 91 of 100 PATs, and he made 6 of 8 field-goal attempts with a long from 41 yards.

Grape Creek running back Darrell West was an honorable-mention selection. He rushed for 1,965 yards and 26 TDs while averaging 10.5 yards per carry and helped lead Grape Creek to its first playoff win in program history.

Coahoma defensive back Kaleb Rodriguez also earned honorable mention after recording 71 tackles, seven interceptions, eight pass breakups, a forced fumble and a fumble recovery.

On the 2A all-state, Ozona running back Christian Villarreal was a first-team pick after his spectacular season. In 11 games, he racked up 3,667 rushing yards and 53 touchdowns while averaging 14.9 yards per carry.

Forsan's Hayden Bowlin earned honorable mention as an all-purpose player. He had 976 rushing yards and 15 TDs, along with 27 catches for 467 yards and three scores. He added 401 passing yards and three TDs, and 514 yards in kick and punt return yardage.
