LUBBOCK, TX — Texas Tech forward JT Toppin will miss the remainder of the season after an MRI confirmed he suffered a torn ACL in his right knee during Tuesday night’s game at Arizona State, the Tech basketball team announced on Wednesday.
Toppin, a junior and four-time Big 12 Player of the Week this season, has been one of the nation’s top performers. He leads the country with 234 made field goals and averages 21.8 points, 10.8 rebounds and 1.7 blocks per game.
He also tops the Big 12 with 16 double-doubles, 10.8 rebounds and 4.2 offensive rebounds per contest. Nationally, Toppin ranks third in double-doubles, sixth in rebounding and ninth in scoring.
The Dallas native earned consensus second-team All-America honors and was the Big 12 Player of the Year last season while helping lead the Red Raiders to the NCAA Tournament Elite Eight.
Over 93 career games, Toppin has totaled 1,593 points, 907 rebounds and 47 double-doubles.
