Wall Girls Enter Playoffs as No. 1 Ranked Team in State

WALL, TX — The Wall Lady Hawks will begin the playoffs tonight as the No. 1-ranked team in the state in Class 3A.

Their postseason path is a formidable one, however, with numerous stumbling blocks before they even get out of their region, including No. 2 Coahoma and No. 3 Idalou.

Wall (31-3) opens the playoffs against Brady (9-21) at 6 p.m. tonight in Winters. After that, the Lady Hawks could face a rematch with Tolar (23-9), which ended their season last year in the second round.

No. 3 Idalou (28-4) will likely be waiting in the third round, and a showdown with No. 2 Coahoma (31-1) looms in the regional final.

Other Top 25 teams from the Concho Valley beginning their playoff runs this week include No. 2 Mason and No. 21 Christoval in Class 2A.

Mason (35-1) plays Brackettville (7-17) at 6:30 p.m. tonight in Junction. Christoval (27-6) takes on Coleman (12-14) at 6 p.m. tonight at San Angelo Central.

In Class 1A, we have No. 13 Garden City (25-6) playing Eden (13-16) at 6 p.m. at San Angelo Lake View. We also have an exciting ranked matchup between No. 16 Menard (23-3) and No. 23 Irion County (24-5) at 7:30 p.m. at Lake View.

The other playoff game in town tonight features two unranked teams, but both of them have won 24 games. Ozona (24-8) plays Ballinger (24-6) at 8 p.m. in a first-round Class 2A Division I game at Central.

The San Angelo Central Lady Cats (22-11) play El Paso Montwood (24-5) in the opening round of the 6A Division II playoffs at 5 p.m. Tuesday in Monahans.
