Angelo State's Ryan Named the LSC's Defensive Player of the Week

RICHARDSON, TX — Angelo State junior forward Jhordan Ryan has been named the Lone Star Conference Defensive Player of the Week, the league announced Tuesday, following standout performances against Western New Mexico and Sul Ross State.

Ryan anchored a Rams defense that held the Mustangs and Lobos to a combined 33.9% shooting from the field and limited the two teams to an average of 51.5 points per game.

Jhordan Ryan averaged 17 points, 9.5 rebounds, 2.5 steals and 1.5 blocks per game over the week.

Ryan totaled 14 points, eight rebounds, three steals and a block against Western New Mexico as Angelo State held the Mustangs — who are receiving votes in the NABC Division II Top 25 — to a season-low 52 points on 30% shooting.

He followed that performance with a career-high 20 points against Sul Ross State, adding 11 rebounds, two blocks and two steals.

Since moving into the starting lineup, Ryan has recorded six double-doubles in eight games while averaging 14.5 points and 11.5 rebounds per contest.

Ryan is the fourth Angelo State player to earn a Lone Star Conference weekly honor this season and the first Ram to do so since Nov. 18. It marks his first weekly conference award with the program.

Angelo State returns to action on the road this weekend with conference games at St. Edward’s and St. Mary’s.
