SAN ANGELO, TX — The No. 9-ranked Angelo State baseball team will host No. 4 UT Tyler this weekend in a rematch of last year’s Super Regional.
UT Tyler ended ASU’s season last year to reach its first-ever NCAA Division II College World Series. It also ended a run of four straight trips to the World Series for the Rams.
ASU is coming off a 2-1 series win at UT Permian Basin last week. The Rams won the first two games by a combined score of 27-7 before being stifled in a 2-0 loss to end the series.
UT Tyler opened its season at home last week and swept Lubbock Christian by a combined score of 32-18.
Though the season is young, this weekend’s series could be critical down the road in determining the Lone Star Conference champion. The Rams won the LSC title last season before being upset by the Patriots in the Super Regional.
ASU and UT Tyler split their four regular-season meetings last season. The Rams then beat the Patriots in the LSC Tournament before being swept in two games in the Super Regional.
This weekend’s series will begin at 3 p.m. Friday at Foster Field at 1st Community Credit Union Stadium, followed by a 2 p.m. game Saturday and a 1 p.m. finale Sunday.
