Angelo State Track and Field Faces Multi-Meet Week

 

SAN ANGELO, TX — The Angelo State University track and field teams compete in two meets this week.

Angelo State’s multi-event athletes — Travis Matthews, Kylie Frush, Abril Okon, and Gracie Stephens — will compete at the Coach Wilson Invitational, hosted by Wichita State University, while the remainder of the Rams and Rambelles roster will travel to the New Mexico Team Open, hosted by the University of New Mexico.

Last time out, both the Rams and Rambelles recorded provisional marks in their most recent competition. William Opare ran a 21.23 in the 200-meter dash, while the women’s 4x400-meter relay team of Keagan Galmor, Kylie Frush, Helene Wiethoff and Lainey Jernigan posted a time of 3:50.63.

Season Notes

  • The Rams and Rambelles currently lead the Lone Star Conference in four events: William Opare (200 meters and 400 meters), the men’s 4x400-meter relay of Jahleel Armstrong, Opare, Taylor Briggs and Rami Balti, and Kylyie Paden (pole vault).

  • Angelo State will send 16 Rambelles to Albuquerque, while 21 Rams will compete.

  • Travis Matthews will be the lone competitor in the heptathlon, beginning Wednesday at 1 p.m. at the Coach Wilson Invitational. Kylie Frush, Abril Okon and Gracie Stephens will compete in the pentathlon starting Thursday at 12:30 p.m., with Matthews concluding the heptathlon later that day.

  • At the New Mexico Team Open, competition begins Friday at 3 p.m. with the pole vault and 200-meter dash. Saturday’s events open at 10 a.m. with the women’s shot put and men’s 60-meter hurdles.
