Central Bobcats Manhandle Frenship to Begin District with a Win

SAN ANGELO, TX — The San Angelo Central Bobcats opened up District 2-6A play with a dominant win over the Frenship Tigers on Friday night, 73-57.

Ean McNeill and TK Taylor combined for 30 points, and the Bobcats suffocated the Tigers on defense in the 16-point win.

"We were pretty physical today," Bobcats' Head Coach Arsenior Geter said after the game. "[That physicality] led to our success. We started off with a lot of good looks, but just could not knock them down. But when we settled in with this awesome crowd, things started to progress better."

Frenship opened up the game with a 14-7 advantage in the first quarter. Geter was not satisfied with the Bocbats' 7-point first, but Central turned things around after that, scoring 26 points in the second, 20 in the third, and 20 in the 4th quarter.

A huge reason for that success was the full-court press Central ran in the second quarter. The Bobcats suffocated Frenship, causing multiple turnovers that led to easy baskets. Central took control midway through the second quarter and never looked back. Like all rivalries, the Tigers refused to go away. Frenship made it close on more than one occasion, including cutting the deficit to 2-points with four minutes remaining in the 3rd quarter, but could never make it over that final obstacle.

Then in the 4th quarter, back-to-back three-point shots from Micah Smith and Trey Allen put the game out of reach. Central went back up by 13 points, and that was all she wrote. The Bobcats ran out the rest of the time on the clock to claim victory, 73-57.

Ean McNeill led the Bobcats in scoring on Friday night with 16 points, followed close behind by TK Taylor with 14 points, and Trey Allen with 12 points.

"Oh, it's very important," Geter said. "We need to make sure we take care of every game at our. To take care of the district champion from last year at our place was a must. We had to do it. Now, we have to go make sure we take care of business on the road."

The Bobcats return to action on Tuesday, Jan. 20, when Central makes the road trip to Midland to play the Legacy Rebels. Tip-off in that matchup is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
