SAN ANGELO, TX — The Angelo State Rams (12-8)(3-6) saw a strong first-half lead dissolve into a loss after a cold second half against UT Dallas (5-10)(4-3) on Thursday night. The Rams fell, 65-53.
Despite the loss, Jhordan Ryan continues to be an asset since he was thrust into the spotlight, averaging 37.5 minutes per game over the past few weeks. Ryan claimed another double-double against the Comets. He scored 18 points on 7-for-11 shooting and 19 rebounds. His 19 rebounds are the second-most in a single game in the conference this season, and tie for the fifth-most rebounds in a single game in program history.
Angelo State jumped out to a great start in the first half. Tough defense and a couple of solid shots allowed the Rams to build up a small lead. The Rams led at the break, 31-25.
However, the ball would not roll Angelo State's way in the second half. Coupled with UT Dallas losing the ability to miss a 3-point shot, the Rams saw their lead disappear quickly. The Comets took the lead at the 10-minute mark and never looked back. UT Dallas outscored Angelo State 40-22 in the second half to claim victory.
Jordan Crawford played well on Thursday night. He scored nine points, collected five rebounds, seven assists, and seven steals. Jesaiah McWright also added nine points, followed close behind by Zyon Little with six points.
Injuries continue to plague the Rams during LSC play. However, this presents a unique opportunity for certain guys on the roster to learn new roles, step into leadership positions, compete and improve. Head Coach Vinay Patel will have these guys bouncing back soon, bet on it.
Angelo State returns to action next Wednesday to face Texas A&M-Kingsville.
