LUBBOCK, TX — Senior Bailey Maupin recorded 19 points as the No. 17-ranked Texas Tech Lady Raiders remained unbeaten with a 71-59 victory over Houston on Tuesday night at United Supermarkets Arena.
With the win, the Lady Raiders remain one of only three remaining unbeaten teams in the Top 25.
Tech’s last 19-game winning streak came at the end of the 1992-93 season and ended with a national championship.
Maupin finished a perfect 6-for-6 at the free-throw line and added five rebounds, three steals and a team-high four assists for Texas Tech (19-0, 6-0 Big 12). Her performance marked her team-leading 11th consecutive double-figure scoring game.
Tech opened the game on a 5-0 run behind a Fritz 3-pointer and a Bristow layup. After Houston trimmed the lead, Tech surged again with a 7-0 run and took a 16-9 lead into the first quarter break. The Lady Raiders extended the margin in the second quarter, highlighted by a Bristow steal and half-court buzzer beater to give Tech a 40-30 halftime lead.
Houston closed the gap to four in the third quarter, but Maupin responded with a 3-pointer and a layup to restore momentum. Fritz added a basket as Tech to give the Lady Raiders a 57-46 advantage headed to the fourth.
The Cougars once again cut into the deficit early in the fourth quarter, but Maupin’s and-one with under four minutes remaining helped steady the Lady Raiders. Tech closed out the game at the free-throw line to secure its 19th straight win.
