Wall Girls Reclaim No. 1 Spot in State Basketball Rankings

WALL, TX — The Wall Lady Hawks are once again the No. 1-ranked girls basketball team in Texas in Class 3A.

Wall reclaimed the top spot after knocking off three Top 10 teams last week during the Championship Basketball Tournament in Saginaw.

Wall’s nine-game winning streak was snapped with a loss to Decatur, which is now the No. 1 team in Class 4A.

The Lady Hawks are 22-3, and their only three losses are to Class 4A teams that are all ranked in the top five in the state. Their next game is at home at 6 p.m. Tuesday against Grape Creek.

Coahoma is right behind Wall at No. 2 in Class 3A with a 21-1 record.

Another team from our area represented highly in the rankings is Mason, which is No. 2 in Class 2A with a 25-1 record. The Cowgirls are behind only No. 1 Panhandle (18-1).

Ballinger (18-2) dropped three spots to No. 11 after the Lady Cats were upset 27-26 last week by Miles.

Christoval made its first appearance in the rankings at No. 23. The Lady Cougars are off to an 18-5 start and have four wins over ranked teams.

Ozona is ranked No. 25 with a 17-5 record.

In Class 1A, Irion County climbed four spots to No. 7 after improving to 15-2. Blackwell (19-5) is also in the rankings at No. 25.
