Wall Girls Jump to No. 1 in State Basketball Rankings

WALL, TX — The Wall Lady Hawks have vaulted to No. 1 in the Class 3A state basketball rankings after a 12-1 start to the season.

Wall already has five wins over state-ranked teams — Class 5A Abilene Wylie and Midlothian Heritage, 4A Seminole and Fredericksburg, and 3A Emory Rains.

The Lady Hawks’ only loss was a 46-37 setback against Brock, the No. 1 team in 4A.

Wall was No. 22 in the preseason state rankings, but the Lady Hawks have made a steady climb since then. They were No. 6 in last week's state rankings but leapfrogged five teams to take over the top spot this week.

Wall is led by head coach Silas Crisler and four seniors — Kennedi Graves, Kathrine Lewis, Emery Harper and Aliyah Vera.

The Lady Hawks lost five players from last year’s team that went 23-9 and fell in the second round of the playoffs.

They’ll have another huge test Tuesday when they travel to play longtime state power Canyon, which is ranked No. 2 in 4A.

Concho Valley has several other schools featured prominently in the state rankings. In 2A, Mason is ranked No. 4 with a 16-1 record, followed by No. 6 Reagan County (9-1), No. 7 Ballinger (12-0) and No. 16 Ozona (12-2).

In 1A, Irion County is No. 10 after a 12-1 start.
