Billionaire to Host Abilene Christian Golf Tournament on Private Course

ABILENE, TX — Billionaire David Halbert will host the Abilene Christian Intercollegiate next year on his private golf course alongside Lake Granbury.

Halbert, who is an Abilene native and ACU alumnus, reportedly spent about $50 million to build the 7,542-yard, par-72 course, which was completed this year.

Halbert National, located about 40 miles southwest of Fort Worth, will host the inaugural college golf tournament Oct. 19-21 next year for men and women.

Universities such as Oregon and Purdue have already committed to play, along with Texas schools such as Baylor, SMU, Houston and Texas A&M.

Legendary golf course designer Tom Fazio is the architect of the course.

The Golf Channel will provide live coverage of ACU’s tournament.

Halbert, who is 69 years old, is estimated to be worth $4.9 billion. He’s the owner of Caris Life Sciences, a precision medicine company that provides molecular profiling of tumors to help oncologists personalize cancer treatment.
