LAS VEGAS, NEVADA — San Angelo’s three world-class ropers will head back to the National Finals Rodeo this week.
Dylan Hancock, Ty Harris and Joel Harris — all of whom finished in the top seven in the world last year — qualified again by finishing in the top 15 in the regular season this year.
Hancock is ranked No. 5 with $182,104.48 in season earnings, while Ty Harris is No. 11 ($162,573.42) and Joel Harris is No. 14 ($156,769.14).
They’re all chasing defending world champion Riley Webb of Denton, who has a nearly $47,000 lead over the field with $315,132 in earnings.
Last year, San Angelo’s cowboys had a sensational showing at the NFR by winning six of the 10 rounds.
It was the sixth straight NFR appearance for Ty Harris, who won two rounds and had his best showing by finishing in fourth place.
Hancock and Joel Harris were making their first NFR appearance last year. They each won two rounds, and Hancock finished in sixth place while Joel Harris was seventh.
Hancock also enters the NFR in third place in the all-around standings as he also competes in team roping. He finished in sixth in the all-around standings last year.
The NFR will be held Dec. 4-13 at the Thomas & Mack Center in Las Vegas.
