Reagan County, Ballinger Debut in Girls State Basketball Rankings

SAN ANGELO, TX — The Concho Valley has six girls basketball teams in this week’s state rankings, including Reagan County and Ballinger making their first appearances this season.

After a 7-0 start to the year, Reagan County jumped all the way to No. 10 in the Class 2A rankings.

The Lady Owls went 9-22 and missed the playoffs last season, but their strong start has earned some attention.

Ballinger’s 6-0 start has it at No. 20 in 2A. The Lady Cats went 22-11 last year and reached the third round of the playoffs, so they’ve been building toward this appearance in the Top 25.

In the 3A rankings, Wall moved up 12 spots to No. 6. The Lady Hawks are 5-0 with some impressive wins over 4A opponents — No. 6 Fredericksburg and No. 17 Seminole — and an Abilene Wylie team that was No. 16 in 5A.

Two regional finalists from last year, Mason and Ozona, are also in the 2A rankings after 8-1 starts. Mason moved up three spots to No. 4, while Ozona jumped two spots to No. 16.

In 1A, Irion County, which was a regional finalist last year, made a big move from No. 18 to No. 9.
