SAN ANGELO, TX — The Angelo State University football team will host Western Oregon at 6 p.m. Saturday for its final home game of the season at LeGrand Stadium at 1st Community Credit Union Field.
The Rams are ranked No. 22 in the nation after last week’s 38-21 loss to then-No. 8 Central Washington. Western Oregon is one of the top teams receiving votes outside the Top 25.
ASU fell to 6-3 overall and 4-3 in the Lone Star Conference, which has the Rams sitting in fifth place.
If ASU has any hopes at all of still salvaging a spot in the NCAA Division II playoffs, the Rams have to win this week and again next week at West Texas A&M.
ASU is currently outside the top 10 in the regional rankings, while Western Oregon is No. 8. Each of the four super regions will send eight teams to the playoffs.
Western Oregon is 7-2 overall and 6-1 in LSC play, so the Wolves are still in contention for a conference title with a game at home next week against Central Washington.
Saturday’s game theme is Military Appreciation and Senior Day.
Three Navy SEALs will also skydive onto the field before the game as part of a fundraising effort by the SEAL Legacy Foundation, a nonprofit that supports the families of fallen and wounded Navy SEALs.
The Kappa Sigma Chapter of ASU is partnering with the nonprofit in trying to raise $20,000 toward the cause.
