Sterling City Freshman McGinnis Takes 2nd Place at State Cross Country Meet

 

ROUND ROCK, TX — Sterling City High School freshman Isa McGinnis ran to a second-place finish Saturday in the Class 2A division at the UIL State Cross Country Meet at Old Settlers Park in Round Rock.

McGinnis finished the two-mile course in 11 minutes, 30.1 seconds. She beat all of the other competitors in the 150-girl field except for Elysian Fields senior Cara Sims, who ran a time of 11:13.7.

Coleman’s Victoria Guerrero also had a top 10 finish for the Concho Valley with an eighth-place showing, leading the Lady Bluecats to a sixth-place finish in the team standings.

Hamilton won the team title with 65 points, followed by Gruver with 102, Douglas with 146, Clarendon with 148 and Wink with 180.

Other Concho Valley finishers included Mason’s Elizabeth McFarland in 37th, Christoval’s Sophia Nemec in 51st, Coleman’s Savannah Hurtado in 63rd, Junction’s Gracie Lehmberg in 65th and Ballinger’s Lyla Aguero in 74th.

Other finishers for Coleman were Callie Campbell in 76th, Kylie Strickland in 88th, Lexi Foster in 110th, Avery Vanpelt in 125th and Haylee Foster in 130th.

In the 2A boys race, Mason junior Cooper Ratliff led the area with a fourth-place finish in 16:40.2. He led the Punchers to a seventh-place showing in the team standings.

The individual race was a photo finish won by Tenaha’s Adrian Ramirez, who clipped Bosqueville’s Cristiano Tinoco by 0.1 seconds at the finish line in a time of 16:14.6 over the 5,000-meter course.

Windthorst claimed the team title with 106 points, followed by Collinsville with 115, Gruver with 126, Slidell with 136 and New Summerfield with 147.

Sonora was 10th in the team standings, while Eldorado was 13th.

Other individual finishers from the Concho Valley included Reagan County’s Jordan Rodriguez in 19th, Mason’s Caden Klingelheger in 21st, Mason’s Irving Tavera in 43rd, Sonora’s Jaycob Ramirez in 47th, Sonora’s Jesus Tres Garza in 48th, Sonora’s Eliseo Garza in 58th, Reagan County’s Eli Luna in 60th, Eldorado’s Emmitt Parker in 75th, Mason’s Corbin Martinez in 76th, Eldorado’s Jaxon Hight in 87th, Eldorado’s Jayden Wilkes in 95th, Eldorado’s Ryley Hight in 97th, Sonora’s Angel Castillejas in 107th, Sonora’s Eduardo Salazar in 112th, Mason’s Sam Simonton in 120th, Sonora’s Gavin Covarrubiaz in 130th, Mason’s Noah Sparks in 131st, Sonora’s Justin Gonzalez in 135th, Mason’s Sam Wyatt in 139th, Eldorado’s Nasir Jones in 140th, Eldorado’s Jack Chavez in 142nd and Eldorado’s Kieran Griffin in 144th.
