ROME, GA — Angelo State’s Margaux Rene saw her strong run at the ITA Cup come to an end Friday morning, falling in the quarterfinals to Alyssa Novoa of Rollins, 3-6, 6-7 (2-7).
Rene advanced to the quarterfinals after an impressive opening-round victory on Thursday, defeating Alina Kupfer of Point Loma Nazarene, 6-4, 6-3. Kupfer had entered the tournament as the California Regional champion.
In Friday’s match, Rene battled through a tight second set but ultimately fell in a tiebreak to Novoa, who had previously upset the tournament’s fourth seed, Renske Ubachs, in straight sets.
Rene’s performance in Rome capped a strong fall campaign that included a finals appearance at the ITA South-Central Regional. She will return to action with the Rambelles on Oct. 24, when Angelo State competes at the New Mexico State Invite.
