SAN ANGELO, TX — The Angelo State women’s soccer team extended its win streak to five straight Wednesday evening with a 1-0 victory over UT Tyler at the LeGrand Soccer Complex.
With the win, the Rambelles improved to 6-2-4 overall and 5-1-2 in Lone Star Conference play.
Neither team could find the back of the net in the first half as both defenses held firm. The Rambelles didn’t record their first shot until the 24th minute when Abby James fired from outside the box, forcing a save by UT Tyler goalkeeper Robbi Curry.
After halftime, Angelo State came out aggressively, recording three shots in the first 10 minutes of the second half. The breakthrough came in the 69th minute, when James delivered a free kick into the box that deflected to Graycen Rasmussen, who buried the game-winner to give the Rambelles a 1-0 lead.
UT Tyler had a final chance to equalize with four seconds left, earning a free kick just outside the box. The Patriots’ shot curled around the defensive wall, but goalkeeper Melyna Martinez made a diving save to secure her fifth consecutive shutout and seventh overall this season. Martinez has now gone 438 consecutive minutes without allowing a goal.
Angelo State finished with 10 total shots, including six on target, while UT Tyler also recorded 12 shots, six of which were on goal. Martinez tallied six saves in the win.
The Rambelles will return to action Saturday, Oct. 18, when they travel to Midwestern State for a 4:30 p.m. kickoff.
