DALLAS, TX — Texas Tech sophomore running back Cameron Dickey has been named the Doak Walker National Running Back of the Week following his record-setting performance in the Red Raiders’ 42-17 win over Kansas on Saturday.
Dickey rushed for 263 yards and two touchdowns, marking the highest single-game rushing total in the FBS this season and the most by a Big 12 player since Iowa State’s Abu Sama recorded 276 yards against Kansas State in 2023.
The recognition caps a week of honors for Dickey, who was also named the Big 12 Offensive Player of the Week, Walter Camp National Offensive Player of the Week, and the Earl Campbell Tyler Rose Award National Player of the Week.
Dickey powered a Texas Tech ground attack that totaled 372 rushing yards, recording the fifth-most rushing yards in a single game by a Red Raider and the 28th 200-yard rushing performance in program history.
His night began with a 71-yard burst on the first play from scrimmage, setting up an explosive outing that also featured a 55-yard touchdown run in the fourth quarter to help seal the victory. The two scores tied his career high and marked his third multi-touchdown game of the season.
Dickey becomes the first Red Raider since 2022 to earn the Doak Walker weekly honor and joins the 2025 Doak Walker Award candidates list, presented annually to the nation’s top running back. His performance was the best by a Texas Tech rusher since Byron Hanspard’s 287-yard effort against Baylor in 1996 — the same season Hanspard won the Doak Walker Award.
No. 7 Texas Tech (6-0, 3-0 Big 12) will travel to Arizona State (4-2, 2-1 Big 12) on Saturday for a conference matchup on FOX at 3 p.m.
