SAN ANGELO, TX — The Angelo State University football team dropped seven spots to No. 12 in the national rankings after its 28-14 loss last week to UT Permian Basin.
The Rams had made a steady climb up to No. 5 after debuting at No. 12, but the loss sent them tumbling back down to where they began.
ASU fell to 4-1 overall and 2-1 in Lone Star Conference play, while UTPB improved to 5-0 and 3-0.
Aside from the rankings, the loss was a serious blow to ASU’s hopes of repeating as conference champs. The Rams will now need UTPB to slip up, which could potentially happen this week when the Falcons host No. 13 Central Washington.
Last week’s loss snapped a 14-game conference winning streak for ASU.
The Rams will try to bounce back this week when they travel to play Texas A&M-Kingsville (2-3, 1-2).
