UPDATED: Lake View Chiefs Beat Lamesa to Remain Undefeated

LAMESA, TX — The San Angelo Lake View football team continued its unbeaten start to the season with a 44-27 win on the road over Lamesa on Friday.

The Chiefs improved to 3-0 for the first time since 2019, and Lake View’s explosive offense has scored at least 42 points in all three of the wins.

Lake View running back Izaiah Rios had the best game of his career with 15 carries for 170 yards and five touchdowns, along with two catches for 43 yards.

Quarterback Chris Alvizo turned in another outstanding performance, going 28-of-38 passing for 305 yards with two TDs and one interception.

Alvizo spread the ball around in a balanced attack. Nick Leyva had seven catches for 57 yards and a TD, and Calvin Whitfield had two catches for 69 yards and a TD. Chris Rodela had seven grabs for 51 yards, while Gabriel Alvarez hauled in five passes for 43 yards.

Defensively, Lake View forced four turnovers. Kentrell Johnson, Roman Garcia and Andrew Young all had interceptions, and Abram Rivera recovered a fumble.

Lake View held off Lamesa in a 55-42 shootout win last year. With both quarterbacks returning — Lake View's Alvizo and Lamesa's Daniel Ramos — it seemed like another high-scoring battle could be in store.

While Ramos finished with 362 yards and three TDs, it came on 25-of-51 passing with three INTs.

Lake View jumped out to a 26-7 lead in the second quarter and was ahead 26-14 at halftime.

The Chiefs began to put the game out of reach in the third quarter with a couple of TD runs by Rios, including one from 27 yards out, for a 38-14 lead.

Rios sealed the win with a 70-yard TD in the fourth quarter for a 44-20 lead.

The Chiefs will play again when they host Lubbock High at 7 p.m. Friday, Sept. 19, at San Angelo Stadium.

Lamesa (0-3) will travel to Henrietta next week.
