Friday Night Roundup: Grape Creek Earns Statement Win Over Reagan County

BIG LAKE, TX — The Grape Creek Eagles went on the road and returned home with an impressive 38-16 win over Reagan County on Friday.

Darrell West again led Grape Creek’s rushing attack with 12 carries for 173 yards and two touchdowns. Sire Garcia added 17 carries for 68 yards.

Reagan County was the District 3-2A Division I champ last year, and the Owls had won 10 of their last 13 games.

Both teams now have a record of 1-1.

Grape Creek will travel to Bangs next week, while Reagan County will visit Odessa Compass Academy.

Brady Topples Rival Mason

The Brady Bulldogs traveled to the Puncher Dome and held off Mason for a 24-22 win Friday.

Mason, a longtime state power, had won the last three meetings with Brady by 20 points or more, but the Bulldogs were up to the challenge this time.

Brady quarterback Sean Jacoby broke away from a 61-yard TD run in the fourth quarter to give the Bulldogs a 24-15 lead, and they held on from there.

Jacoby finished with 15 carries for 160 yards and two TDs. He was also 4-of-8 passing for 61 yards, and he had an interception on defense.

Ashton Taylor had 21 carries for 91 yards and two TDs, and he had two catches for 45 yards.

Johnny Roque led the defense with 16 tackles, while Demarcus Reed added 14 tackles and two tackles for loss.

Rylan Pedigo had an interception, and Ethan Bernal and Edward Cook each had fumble recoveries.

Brady will host Ozona next week in a battle of 2-0 teams. Mason (0-2) will visit Coleman.

Robert Lee Rolls to Surprising Rout of Garden City

The Robert Lee Steers got revenge and then some in a 62-14 win over Garden City on Friday in Robert Lee.

With most of the returning starters back from last year’s game, which Garden City won 68-60, it figured to be another closely contested game.

Robert Lee took it to another level, however, and ended the game by the 45-point mercy rule early in the third quarter.

Brenner Sherwood had 11 carries for 138 yards and six TDs, and he was 8-of-9 passing for 124 yards.

He also had eight tackles, a forced fumble, and an interception returned for a TD.

Wyatt Bosworth had two fumble recoveries, one of which he returned for a score.

Robert Lee (2-0) will host Ira next week, while Garden City (1-1) will host Sands.

Menard Runs Past Rochelle

The Menard Yellow Jackets continued to impress with a 65-16 win over Rochelle on Friday.

Jayden Payton had six carries for 171 yards and three TDs, and he threw a TD pass.

Bryce Davis added four carries for 96 yards and three TDs.

Menard (2-0) will host six-man newcomer Rocksprings on Thursday, while Rochelle will host May.
