Dallas Cowboys Cut Roster Down to 53

ARLINGTON, TX — The Dallas Cowboys have made their final cuts and have their 53-man roster in place.

Yesterday, teams in the NFL had to cut down their roster size to the 53 guys they’ll bring into the season on the roster. The roster includes:

Quarterback

  • Dak Prescott
  • Joe Milton

Running Back

  • Javonte Williams
  • Miles Sanders
  • Jaydon Blue
  • Phil Mafah

Fullback

  • Hunter Luepke

Keeping five running backs including Luepke is sort of surprising, but who is going to run the ball in Dallas? Reports out of training camp were that Texas rookie Jaydon Blue and free agent pick up Javonte Williams would split carries. That was before Blue suffered an ankle injury against the Falcons in their last preseason game.

A few names that aren’t on the 53 include players already on Injured Reserve like Jonathan Mingo and Payton Turner. DaMarvion Overshown and Josh Butler are on the Physically Unable to Perform list and rookie cornerback Shavon Revel is on the NFI, Non-Football Injury/Illness list. The team expected that from Revel, who was injured at Eastern Carolina this past season.

The players cut include:

Quarterback

  • Will Grier

Running Back

  • Malik Davis
  • Deuce Vaughn

Wide Receiver

  • Jalen Brooks
  • Jalen Cropper
  • Traeshon Holden
  • Josh Kelly

Tight End

  • Princeton Fant
  • Rivaldo Fairweather
  • Tyler Neville
  • John Stephens Jr.

Offensive Line

  • Nick Broeker
  • La’El Collins
  • Saahdiq Charles
  • Geron Christian
  • Hakeem Adeniji

Defensive Line

  • Tyrus Wheat
  • Earnest Brown
  • Tommy Akingbesote
  • Denzel Daxon

Linebacker

  • Justin Barron
  • Buddy Johnson
  • Darius Harris

Defensive Back

  • Christian Matthew
  • Troy Pride
  • C.J. Goodwin
  • Kemon Hall
  • Michael Ojemudia
  • Robert Rochell
  • Alijah Clark
  • Isreal Mukuamu
  • Mike Smith
  • Bruce Harmon

There are a few here that are interesting. Deuce Vaughn was cut and had a heartfelt story with his father being in the Cowboys' front office. Vaughn was always a much smaller back, and the Cowboys have to fix the running back position. C.J. Goodwin, a good special teams player, and camp standout Traeshon Holden are ones that fans are hoping will fall through to the practice squad.

Another kind of surprising cut is rookie draft pick Tommy Akingbesote as the Cowboys try to keep their draft picks on the team.

The Cowboys kick off the season against the defending Super Bowl Champion Philadelphia Eagles on Thursday, Sept. 4, 2025, at 7:20 p.m.
