SAN ANGELO, TX— A former Central Bobcat has been named to a prestigious award watch list.
Maverick McIvor, who is the quarterback at Western Kentucky, has been named to the Maxwell Award watch list. The Maxwell Award is given to the most outstanding college football player in the nation.
McIvor played for the San Angelo Central Bobcats from 2016 until 2018.
After playing as a receiver as a sophomore, he exploded in 2017 as a junior when he played 12 games, completing 262 of 422 passes for 3,415 yards, 43 touchdowns, and eight interceptions.
His senior year, McIvor was injured in the second game with a season-ending knee injury.
McIvor started his college career at Texas Tech and was injured again before he transferred to ACU. McIvor returned to Lubbock last season when the Wildcats took on the Red Raiders and took things down to the wire, so much so that the game went into overtime. McIvor and the Wildcats took the loss, 52-51, but he played outstanding, going 36-51 for 506 yards, three TDs and no INTs.
He again entered the transfer portal in 2025 and now plays for Western Kentucky.
