HOUSTON, TX — University of Houston standouts J’Wan Roberts and KeAyla Dove have been named the school’s nominees for the 2024-25 Big 12 Athlete of the Year awards, the conference announced Thursday.
Roberts, a senior forward on the Cougars’ men’s basketball team, capped off a historic career by helping lead Houston to the 2025 NCAA national championship game. He was named to the NCAA Final Four All-Tournament Team and earned All-Big 12 First Team and All-Defensive Team honors for the season.
A native of St. Thomas in the U.S. Virgin Islands, Roberts finished his career as the winningest player in Houston history with a 150-23 overall record. He also set program records for games played (173), overall wins (150), and home wins at Fertitta Center (77). Roberts earned his bachelor’s degree in Health Promotions and is pursuing post-baccalaureate studies in Human Developmental Family Sciences.
Dove, a graduate student and Houston native, dominated the field in shot put during the 2024-25 track and field season. She swept both the indoor and outdoor Big 12 titles in the event and holds Houston’s school records with a 19.46-meter throw indoors — the third-best mark in NCAA indoor history — and an 18.14-meter throw outdoors.
Dove placed third in the shot put at the 2025 NCAA Indoor Championships and earned First Team All-America honors from the USTFCCCA. She holds a Bachelor of Applied Arts & Sciences degree.
Each Big 12 institution nominated one male and one female athlete for the honor. The winners will be announced Thursday, July 24, on Big12Sports.com and the league’s social media channels.
