ATLANTA, GA — Baseball fans will get a taste of All-Star Week excitement Monday night when the 2025 MLB Home Run Derby takes place at Truist Park in Atlanta.
This year’s event features a mix of power hitters, including Seattle Mariners catcher Cal Raleigh, who leads the American League with 38 home runs before the break — an AL record and just one shy of Barry Bonds’ MLB-best 39 before the 2001 All-Star Game.
The Home Run Derby will air live on ESPN at 7 p.m. A special Statcast edition, featuring advanced metrics and commentary, will be available on ESPN2.
The eight-player field includes:
-
Cal Raleigh, Mariners – 38 HR, AL record
-
James Wood, Nationals – 24 HR, first All-Star appearance at age 22
-
Junior Caminero, Rays – Home Run Derby debut, age 22
-
Byron Buxton, Twins
-
Oneil Cruz, Pirates
-
Jazz Chisholm, Yankees
-
Brent Rooker, Athletics
-
Matt Olson, Braves
The Derby consists of three rounds. In the first round, each batter will have three minutes or 40 pitches to hit as many home runs as possible, followed by a bonus round with up to three outs. Any home run over 425 feet earns a fourth out.
The top four hitters advance to the semifinals: No. 1 vs. No. 4 and No. 2 vs. No. 3. In the semifinals and finals, each player gets two minutes or 27 pitches. Ties are broken via sudden-death swing-offs.
Los Angeles Dodgers outfielder Teoscar Hernández is the defending champion, winning last year at Globe Life Field in Texas. The last time the Derby was held in Atlanta was in 2000 at Turner Field, where Chicago Cubs slugger Sammy Sosa took the crown.
