WALL, TX — Wall High School finished as the runner-up in the UIL Lone Star Cup standings in Class 3A after the final results were released earlier this week.
Wall’s second-place finish led the Concho Valley’s showing in the Lone Star Cup race, which measures a school’s overall performance in academic and athletic competitions.
Wall accumulated 69 points, fortified by state titles in baseball and boys golf, to hold off Gunter (67) and Shallowater (64). Holliday ran away with the race with 94 points to secure back-to-back Lone Star Cups.
Water Valley also represented Tom Green County with a top 10 finish after tying for ninth in Class 1A.
Other Concho Valley schools that finished in the top 25 in 1A included Menard at 19th, Richland Springs at 22nd, and Garden City and Irion County at 24th.
Jayton won the 1A title with 66 points, six ahead of runner-up Gordon.
In Class 2A, Mason finished in fifth place and Christoval was 24th.
Shelbyville won the 2A title with 63 points, while Shiner was second with 58.
The other Lone Star Cup champions were Wimberley in 4A, Aledo in 5A and Austin Vandegrift in 6A.
