Netflix Announces Documentary on the Dallas Cowboys

DALLAS, TX — Dallas Cowboys fans will have two new reasons to tune in to Netflix this summer, with the streaming giant set to release a pair of series spotlighting the franchise and its storied history.

Netflix announced Wednesday, June 11, that America’s Team: The Gambler and His Cowboys, a documentary series focused on Cowboys owner Jerry Jones and the team’s rise to prominence in the 1990s, will premiere August 19. The series promises never-before-seen footage and in-depth interviews with franchise legends, including Troy Aikman, Emmitt Smith, Michael Irvin, Deion Sanders, and coaches Jimmy Johnson and Barry Switzer.

Billed as the “definitive story of the Dallas Cowboys and Jerry Jones’ impact on NFL history,” the series chronicles the team’s transformation into a global brand and the most valuable sports franchise in the world. The logline describes it as “a decade-plus journey, led by Jones' intrepid business moves,” culminating in three Super Bowl titles between 1992 and 1995.

This is the second Cowboys-related release on Netflix this summer. Season two of America’s Sweethearts: Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders, the reality series highlighting the team's cheerleading squad, debuts June 18. The first season earned critical acclaim after its June 2024 premiere.

The upcoming series will also feature appearances by high-profile Cowboys fans, including former President George W. Bush and Nike founder Phil Knight.
