Texas Tech's NiJaree Canady Repeats as Honda Sport Award Winner

LUBBOCK, TX – Texas Tech star pitcher NiJaree Canady has been named the winner of the 2025 Honda Sport Award for Softball, the Collegiate Women Sports Awards (CWSA) announced Tuesday. It marks the second consecutive season Canady has received the prestigious honor.

"Winning the Honda Award is an incredible honor that not only represents me, but also my teammates, coaches and family," said Canady. "I am so grateful to represent this sport!"

A junior from Topeka, Kansas, Canady capped another historic season by earning unanimous First Team All-American honors from the NFCA, D1Softball and Softball America. She was also named the Big 12 Pitcher of the Year, Big 12 Tournament Most Outstanding Player, and a WCWS All-Tournament Team selection.

Canady led the nation in wins (34), ranked second in ERA (1.11) and strikeouts (319), and finished top five nationally in hits allowed per seven innings (3.88) and strikeout-to-walk ratio (6.62). She was named the NFCA Pitcher of the Year and was a top-three finalist for the USA Softball Player of the Year.

Presented annually for the past 49 years, the Honda Sport Award recognizes the top female athlete in 12 NCAA-sanctioned sports. As the softball recipient, Canady becomes a finalist for the 2025 Honda Cup, which will be awarded to the Collegiate Woman Athlete of the Year on June 30 during a live CBS Sports Network telecast at 7 p.m. ET in New York City.
