Former Lake View Grad Freeman to Take Over Burnet Football Program

BURNET, TX — Grant Freeman, who graduated from San Angelo Lake View High School and later coached there, is the new head football coach and athletic director at Burnet.

Freeman was the head football coach at Wichita Falls High School since 2017 before taking over as the Wichita Falls ISD athletic director in 2023.

He guided the school district through a unique transition as it consolidated three high schools — Hirschi, Rider and Wichita Falls — into two new ones, Legacy and Memorial.

For his efforts, Freeman was named the Region 2 Administrator of the Year by the Texas High School Athletic Directors Association.

Freeman graduated from Lake View in 1999 before attending Angelo State. He then began his coaching career as an assistant at Lake View in 2006.

After a stop in Springtown, he was the head boys basketball coach at Comanche and Brownwood, where he also served as the offensive coordinator of the football team.

Freeman and his wife, Hillary, have two children in elementary school.

He takes over a Burnet program that went 5-6 last year, which included a 57-14 win over Lake View.

Burnet and Lake View are set to play again this season in San Angelo on Oct. 3.
