COAHOMA, TX — Coahoma High School’s Hannah Wells has been named the 2025 Gatorade Texas Softball Player of the Year.
The 6-foot senior right-hander, who has signed with the University of Texas, recently helped Class 3A Division II Coahoma become the first school in Texas to win three straight softball state titles.
She had a .602 batting average with a nation-leading 31 home runs, along with 75 RBIs and 54 runs.
In the pitcher’s circle, she was 22-1 with a 0.49 ERA, 258 strikeouts in 127.2 innings and an opponent’s batting average of .112.
“She is incredibly hard to game plan against, because you have to prepare high school kids to compete against Hannah, who is already at the level of a dominant Division I (college) pitcher,” said Stanton head coach Joseph Morelion to Gatorade. “At the plate, Hannah is the best hitter I’ve been able to witness with my own eyes at any level. The ball is going to be hit hard — it’s just a matter of where and how far.”
The Gatorade Player of the Year program annually recognizes one winner in the District of Columbia and each of the 50 states across 12 different high school sports.
