Texans Expected to Sign RB Nick Chubb to One-Year Deal

HOUSTON, TX — Four-time Pro Bowl running back Nick Chubb is expected to sign a one-year contract with the Houston Texans on Monday, pending a physical, sources told ESPN.

Chubb, who spent his first seven NFL seasons with the Cleveland Browns, would join a crowded Texans backfield that already features Pro Bowler Joe Mixon, Dameon Pierce, Dare Ogunbowale and rookie Woody Marks, a fourth-round pick out of USC.

A second-round draft selection in 2018 out of Georgia, Chubb ranks third on the Browns’ all-time rushing list with 6,843 yards. His time in Cleveland, however, was hampered by injuries in recent seasons. A major knee injury in Week 2 of the 2023 season sidelined him for most of the year. He returned in Week 7 of 2024 and scored a touchdown against Cincinnati but later suffered a season-ending broken foot in Week 15.

In eight games last season, Chubb rushed for 332 yards, averaging a career-low 3.3 yards per carry and just 4.9% of his runs going for 10 yards or more.

Despite the setbacks, Houston is betting on Chubb to return to form and provide a potent one-two punch alongside Mixon, who rushed for 1,016 yards and 11 touchdowns last season en route to a Pro Bowl nod.

NFL Network was first to report Chubb’s expected deal with the Texans.

The Texans' mascot should be a convicted felon. Like, a yellow dog covered in tattoos named "Tatts."
