SAN ANGELO, TX — The Junction Eagles qualified for the 7 on 7 state football tournament over the weekend at a tournament in Abilene.
It will be Junction's first-ever appearance at state.
After advancing from pool play, Junction defeated Hawley 24-14 with a spot at state on the line.
Albany topped Tolar 21-19 to earn the tournament’s other ticket to state.
Junction beat Henrietta 42-6 and Jacksboro 19-14 in pool play.
Junction’s only loss was 28-20 to Goldthwaite, but Goldthwaite had already punched its ticket to state, so Junction advanced as the pool winner and made the most of it.
Eldorado won two games at the tournament but lost 33-27 to Hawley to finish as the runner-up in pool play.
Ballinger and Miles each went 0-3 in pool play.
The state tournament will be held June 26-28 in College Station.
Other schools from our region that have qualified include Sonora, Brady and Iraan.
