Coahoma Makes History With Third Straight Softball State Title

AUSTIN, TX — The Coahoma High School softball team made history Thursday by becoming the first team in Texas to win three straight UIL state titles in softball.

The Bulldogettes defeated Lexington 6-1 to claim the Class 3A Division II championship at Red & Charline McCombs Field in Austin.

Coahoma took the lead for good in the third inning when Hannah Wells hit a solo home run for a 2-1 lead.

In the fourth inning, Nevaeh Kerby had an RBI double and Addi Hart added a sacrifice fly to make it 4-1.

Kerby walked to push across another run in the fifth, and Mia Clemmer hit a solo HR in the sixth for the game’s final score.

Clemmer and Wells each went 2 for 4 at the plate with a HR and a double.

Wells also picked up the win in the pitcher’s circle to improve to 22-1. She allowed six hits in seven innings of work while striking out and walking two.

Coahoma finished its season with a record of 35-1, while Lexington closed at 26-9.

Since softball began as a UIL sport in 1993, numerous schools have won back-to-back state titles, but Coahoma is the only one to win three in a row.
