Angelo State Rams Pushed to Brink of Elimination by UT Tyler

 

SAN ANGELO, TX — The Angelo State University baseball team fell into an early hole and never recovered in a 12-3 loss to UT Tyler on Thursday in Game 1 of their NCAA Division II South Central Super Regional series.

UT Tyler scored three times in the first inning and three more in the second inning to take a quick 6-1 lead that was never threatened.

The Rams will now have to win back-to-back games to keep their season alive and advance to the College World Series.

ASU and UT Tyler will meet again in Game 2 at 7 p.m. Friday at Foster Field at 1st Community Credit Union Stadium.

ASU pitcher Alizaeh Gutierrez was charged with five hits and five runs allowed in just 1.1 innings of work Thursday.

The Rams were outhit 16-8 and were never able to mount a comeback threat.

After ASU scored a run in the fifth to get within 6-2, the Patriots answered in the sixth with two runs to push the lead to 8-2.

Lane Hutchinson went 3-for-4 to lead the Rams’ offense.
