Rambelles Rally in Regional Opener, Set Up Showdown With West Texas A&M

CANYON, TX – The Angelo State softball team defeated Colorado Mesa 3-2 in their opening game of the NCAA Division II South Central Regional Tournament on Thursday.

No. 3-seeded ASU fell behind 2-0 after the No. 6 Mavericks scored in the third and fourth innings.

However, ASU responded with three runs in the bottom of the fourth, highlighted by Lauren De La Cruz’s two-run single that put the Belles on top for good.

ASU pitcher Cheyenne Floyd locked it down from there, completing a four-hitter with eight strikeouts.

The Belles improved to 45-12 and advance to play No. 2 seed and host West Texas A&M at noon Friday.

WT is ranked No. 3 in the nation, while ASU is No. 8.

Colorado Mesa fell to 39-16 and will try to keep its season alive in the double-elimination tournament against No. 7 seed Lubbock Christian at 2:30 p.m. Friday.
