CANYON, TX — Angelo State senior pitcher Amelia Hatthorn threw a one-hitter Friday to help lift the Rambelles softball team to a 1-0 win over Colorado Mesa in an elimination game at the NCAA Division II South Central Regional Tournament.
With the Belles reeling from a 2-1 loss to West Texas A&M earlier in the day, Hatthorn stepped up with an incredible performance to help ASU keep its season alive.
A third-inning walk and a fourth-inning single were the only base runners she allowed. An error also put a runner on in the second inning.
The Rambelles’ offense broke the scoreless tie in the sixth inning when Laylonna Applin delivered a one-out single up the middle to score pinch runner Paris Brienesse from second base.
ASU (46-13) will now have to find a way to win twice Saturday against a West Texas A&M team that has a 54-5 record.
The Belles and Lady Buffs will square off at 2:30 p.m. Saturday, with an if-necessary game to follow 30 minutes after the conclusion of the first game.
