Angelo State Softball Edged by West Texas A&M in Regional Semifinal

CANYON, TX — The Angelo State University softball team dropped a 2-1 decision to West Texas A&M on Friday at the NCAA Division II South Central Regional Tournament.

No. 3-seeded ASU scored in the first inning on an RBI single by Averie Gunther, but the Belles managed only four hits the rest of the way.

No. 2 seed WT tied the game in the third inning, then scored the winning run in the fourth on a solo home run by Avery Cannon.

The Lady Buffs improved to 54-5 and move on to the regional final at 2:30 p.m. Saturday.

ASU (45-13) will have to play again at 5 p.m. today against the winner of No. 6 Colorado Mesa and No. 7 Lubbock Christian.

If the Belles survive, they’ll need to beat WT twice Saturday to keep their season alive and advance to next week’s Super Regional.
