AUSTIN, TX — Entering the second and final round of the UIL 3A State Golf Tournament on Tuesday, the Wall High School boys golf team had the lead, but there were numerous teams within striking distance.
It didn’t matter as the Hawks again posted the lowest score of the day to run away with a 20-shot win at Jimmy Clay Golf Course in Austin.
Wall’s two-day total of 304-309—613 gave the Hawks an impressive victory on a day that began with six teams within 11 shots of the lead.
There was also uncertainty because of the weather, which caused the cancellation of every class except for 3A and 4A.
Wall again delivered with consistent performances, led by Maxwell Wymore, who finished in eighth place with a two-day score of 75-74—149.
He was followed by Hayden Barnes in 11th at 78-73—151, Stratten Abel in 16th (76-77—153), Kasen Mull in 21st (76-80—156) and Cannon Willard in 45th (82-87—169).
Pottsboro, Maypearl and Cameron Yoe tied for second place at 633 before going to a playoff to break the tie.
Cameron Yoe took second place, Pottsboro was third, and Maypearl wound up fourth.
Maypearl’s Jakob Mekelburg (73-69—142) and Central Heights’ Andrew Bird (74-68—142) also tied for first place in the individual standings.
Heights went on to win the title on the first playoff hole.
