SAN ANGELO, TX — The Angelo State women's tennis team will close out its regular-season road slate this weekend with matches at Western New Mexico and Sul Ross State. The Rambelles will face the Mustangs on Friday at 11 a.m. in Silver City, New Mexico, before heading to Alpine to take on the Lobos on Saturday at 11 a.m.
Angelo State (13-7, 2-6 Lone Star Conference) is looking to rebound after a narrow 4-3 loss to St. Mary’s on April 19. Despite a strong start to the season that saw the Rambelles set a program record with 12 straight wins, they’ve dropped recent conference contests heading into their final regular-season weekend.
Western New Mexico enters Friday’s match following back-to-back losses to Lubbock Christian (7-0) and Texas Permian Basin (5-2), while Sul Ross State remains winless on the year, most recently falling 7-0 in both contests to the same opponents.
Freshman standout Margaux Rene continues to lead the Belles in singles play, boasting a 15-5 record and a No. 41 national ranking. Rene has defeated four nationally ranked opponents this season, including No. 3 Amelie Gindl (Southern Arkansas), No. 75 Jessica Bohnert, No. 73 Andrea De Bernardo, and most recently No. 38 Selina Wu from St. Mary’s.

Senior Ivet Stancheva also remains a steady presence in the lineup, entering the weekend with a 13-6 singles mark. She was named Lone Star Conference Player of the Week earlier this season for wins over Central Oklahoma and Missouri Western.
In doubles, the 11th-ranked tandem of Avery Durham and Eva Schwartz leads the way with a 12-4 record, while the freshman duo of Rene and Benedetta Raggiotti has compiled a 13-7 mark.
The Rambelles are 68-46 in singles play and 35-19 in doubles this season, as they aim to build momentum heading into the Lone Star Conference Tournament.
