State Track and Field Qualifiers from Concho Valley and West Texas

SAN ANGELO, TX — Numerous athletes from our area have qualified for the UIL Track and Field State Meet next month.

The meet will be held May 1-3 at Mike A. Myers Stadium on the campus of the University of Texas in Austin.

Each event at the state meet will include nine entrants. The top two finishers in each of the four regions qualified, along with a wild-card entry awarded to the top third-place finisher.

Among the highlights from our area are San Angelo Lake View sprinter Kentrell Johnson, who qualified at the Class 4A level in the 200-meter dash with a time of 21.77 seconds.

Wall has 15 entrants in the 3A competition, led by Briggs Jones, who has qualified for the state in the maximum number of five events.

Jones will compete in the 100, 200, long jump, triple jump and as the anchor leg of the 4x200 relay.

Reagan County’s Kason Brown is headed to state in three events after being a part of three regional titles. Brown won the 200 and is a member of the 4x100 and 4x200 relays. Reagan County owns the fastest time in the state in each event.
