SAN ANGELO, TX — Central and Lake View saw some strong performances from their athletes Friday at their respective area track and field meets.
The top four finishers in each event qualified for next week’s regional meet.
Central was led by Hanna Zwiebel, who again ran to an impressive win in the 800, claiming the area title by 2.73 seconds over the field with a time of 2:18.19.
Sydney Crooks punched her ticket to regionals in two events by taking second in the high jump (5 feet, 4 inches) and third in the triple jump (35-9).
The Lady Cats’ 4x100 relay was second in 3:58.90.
The Lady Cats also had a pair of third-place finishes from sprinter Emauri Vinson in the 100 (12.15) and 200 (25.28).
Naomi Baegent was fourth in the 400 in 47.20.
The Central boys had two regional qualifiers — Trey Steele, who was third in the pole vault (13-6), and Tu’uta Kalamafoni, who was third in the discus (152-6).
Lake View’s day was highlighted by Braylon White, who won the area title in the triple jump with a hop, skip and a jump of 44 feet, 0.75 inches.
Kentrell Johnson is also headed to regionals after clocking a time of 22.58 seconds in the 200 to take second place.
The Chiefs qualified two relays, including the 4x400, which took second in 3:24.96. The 4x200 relay was fourth in 1:29.01.
Analycia Vasquez was the Maidens’ only regional qualifier after she took third in the 100 in a time of 12.54.
Central will compete at the Region I-6A meet at the University of Texas at Arlington on Friday and Saturday. Lake View will compete at the Region I-4A meet at Texas Tech in Lubbock.
