SAN ANGELO, TX — The No. 7-ranked Angelo State University softball team is home this weekend as it welcomes Sul Ross State and UT Permian Basin to Mayer Softball Field.
The Rambelles will play Sul Ross in a 5 p.m. doubleheader Friday, followed by a 1 p.m. Sunday doubleheader against UTPB.
ASU went 3-1 last week against Lubbock Christian, giving the Belles seven wins in their last eight games.
ASU swept Sul Ross and UTPB in doubleheaders on the road last month. The Belles cruised to big wins in all of those games, with the exception of a 4-2 win over UTPB.
Senior third baseman Averie Gunther was named the Lone Star Conference Hitter of the Week for her performances at the plate against Lubbock Christian. She went 6-for-10 from the plate and hit her first two home runs in Sunday's doubleheader. Overall, she has 20 hits in her past 40 at-bats.
ASU enters this weekend with a 33-9 overall record and a 24-8 mark in LSC play.
Sul Ross State is 10-31 overall and 7-25 in LSC play, while UTPB is 8-34 overall and 3-29 in the LSC.
This will be the Belles’ second-to-last scheduled home weekend before they close out the regular season April 25 against Midwestern State and April 27 vs. West Texas A&M.
