DALLAS, TX— The Dallas Cowboys have traded for a new quarterback.
The Dallas Cowboys have traded a fifth-round pick (171) to the New England Patriots for quarterback Joe Milton and a seventh-round pick (217). The trade comes after Cooper Rush, who was Dak Prescott’s backup, signed with the Baltimore Ravens.
The Cowboys needed to add a signal caller as both Rush and Trey Lance are no longer with the team.
Milton was drafted by the Patriots in the 2024 NFL Draft in the sixth-round out of Tennessee. He did have a good game in Week 18 against the Buffalo Bills where he threw for 241 yards on 22 completions (29 attempts), and a touchdown. Milton added a score on the ground as well.
This move helps solidify the quarterback position in Dallas. NFL talking heads have raved about Milton’s ability to play football. Now, the Cowboys have a young signal caller to backup Prescott.
Trading for Milton does not mean the Cowboys won’t add another young quarterback in the upcoming draft but it doesn’t have the strongest quarterback class even though some names made sense to draft in the mid to late rounds.
