Texas Women Advance to Final Four for First Time in 22 Years

BIRMINGHAM, AL — The University of Texas women’s basketball team held off TCU 58-47 in an all-Lone Star State matchup Monday in the Elite Eight.

It sends the No. 1-seeded Longhorns to the Final Four for the first time since 2003.

It was the first-ever appearance in the Elite Eight for No. 2 TCU, which ended its season 34-4.

Texas was led by Madison Booker, the SEC Player of the Year, with 18 points and six rebounds.

Hailey Von Lith had 17 points and eight rebounds to lead TCU.

Led by head coach Vic Schaefer, Texas is now two wins away from its second national title and first since 1986.

The Longhorns will next have to get past defending national champion South Carolina in the national semifinals on Friday in Tampa, Florida.

South Carolina won two of the three meetings between the teams this season, most recently 64-45 in the SEC Tournament final.
