Angelo State Softball Coach Travis Scott Earns 1,000th Career Win

ODESSA, TX — Angelo State softball coach Travis Scott picked up the 1,000th win of his career Friday evening with the Rambelles' sweep of UT Permian Basin.

ASU won the opener 10-1 before claiming a 4-2 win in the nightcap at UTPB Softball Park.

Scott becomes the first coach in Lone Star Conference history to win 1,000 games in the conference, winning the first 101 of his career at Southeastern Oklahoma from 2001-03 before winning the next 899 at ASU.

The Belles struck first in Game 1, with Erin Plunkett leading the game off with a walk before scoring on an Ashton McMillan two-out double. McMillan would score on Averie Gunther's single through the right side to make it 2-0.

The following inning saw five runs cross the plate; the scoring barrage was kicked off by Zoey De Baca's lead-off home run.

Laylonna Applin would hit a two-RBI double later in the inning, and Tatiana Trotter followed with a two-run home run.

Blake Holtorf would single in a run in the third inning to make it 8-0.

The Falcons would scratch a run across in the bottom of the fifth to fight off the run rule, only for the Rambelles to score twice on back-to-back singles by De Baca and Carter Smith to make it 10-1, the game's final score.

Ten different Rambelles recorded at least one hit, and 11 reached base, with De Baca and McMillan recording two hits. Plunkett did not record an official at bat in her two plate appearances, drawing a pair of walks.

Gunther started the game in the circle, throwing a clean first inning before making way for Amelia Hatthorn, who picked up the win, allowing one hit in two innings. Bri Waters picked up her second save of the season, throwing the final three innings and allowing three hits and a run while striking out three Falcons.

The Rambelles scored first in Game 2, doing so on a wild pitch.

The Falcons would string together a couple of hits in the fourth inning to tie the game at 1-all.

The Rambelles would push two runs across in the top of the fifth inning, doing so on a McMillan single and a double steal by Gunther and Kamryn Loeffler.

Trotter would homer to left-center field in the top of the seventh to cap off the scoring.

Cheyenne Floyd picked up her 15th win of the season, going seven innings and allowing one run on two hits while fanning eight Falcons.

The Rambelles are 28-8 on the season and 19-7 in LSC play. They are back in action on Sunday at Sul Ross State.
