SAN ANGELO, TX — For the first time in a while, Christian English is taking some time to relax.
The San Angelo Central star has earned it.
After back-to-back years as the Bobcats’ quarterback on the football field and their floor general on the basketball court, English’s high school athletic career has come to an end.
While he’s still deciding on his college plans — he has received offers to play football for Angelo State, Sul Ross State and McMurry — English is enjoying a rare quiet time in his schedule for now.
“It’s a little weird,” English admitted. “I get bored a lot. But I’m relaxing and chilling out, and my body feels better.”
English led the Bobcats to a 24-11 record this past basketball season, which ended in a first-round playoff loss.
He was one of the best all-around players in West Texas with 20.6 points, 6.2 rebounds, 5.4 assists and 3.7 steals per game.
He was a 37% shooter from 3-point range and earned co-Offensive MVP honors in District 2-6A.
For everything he meant to the Bobcats, he’s the MVP of San Angelo LIVE!’s All-Star Boys Hoops Team.

“There were a lot of games this season that we won that we wouldn’t have without him,” Central head coach Arsenio Geter said. “He was the centerpiece of our program, and he’s going to be very missed.”
In November, English basically walked right off the football field and into the basketball gym, and he didn’t miss a beat.
The only problem was he first needed a bit of time to recover from being banged up during football season.
“After that, he was in the starting lineup and leading us in most categories on the stat sheet,” Geter said. “To go from being the starting quarterback to being the leading scorer on the basketball court is pretty unique at this level.”
Geter said that in addition to everything English could do on offense, he was also the Bobcats’ best defender.
“He’s not just strong and fast, but he’s also really smart, and he has a good basketball IQ,” Geter said. “When you put all that together, you have a great basketball player.”
English said he would love to continue playing football and basketball in college if possible. He said he loves both sports equally.
If this was his final basketball season, English made sure it was a memorable one.
“I felt good about this season,” English said. “Coming in with a new head coach, I feel like we all transitioned well. He taught us a lot. The younger guys really stepped up, and I’m going to miss playing with them.”
